Vinyl Playback

Audio Research

Reference Phono 10

Vinyl record playback has been an integral part of Audio Research since our founding in 1970. Think back to the great phono stages built into the defining preamplifiers of their day, among them the SP3, SP6, SP8, SP10, and SP11. Even after the introduction of the compact disc in 1982, phono sections remained a revered part of our preamplifiers. The first Audio Research phono preamplifier in a separate chassis was introduced in 1992.

Reference Phono 3

When Audio Research was founded in 1970, analog vinyl playback was the de facto music source of the time. Audio Research has either incorporated or built stand-alone phono stages since the very beginning, and has continuously provided phono preamplification, even during the height of digital music. The Reference Phono 3 is the next advancement of analog playback.

Foundation PH9

The PH9 phono preamplifier is a great pairing with most cartridge and turntable combinations. A trio of 6H30 vacuum tubes are at the core of a simple and clear signal path to provide the most transparent pre-amplification possible. Five different impedance settings allow for cartridge loading, which can be changed on the fly with the included metal remote. Cartridge impedance, tube hours, auto shutdown, and other features are included in the menu system.

AT-OC9/III

Low output moving coil cartridge

Audio-Technica’s AT-OC9/III MicroCoil™ Cartridge features a special line contact stylus embedded into a low-profile solid boron cantilever, ensuring the music signals read by the tip of the stylus are transmitted reliably to the coils. The cartridge’s “VC mold” design ensures stability and rigidity while the dual moving coil offers excellent stereo separation and improved frequency response for long-lasting performance. The use of PCOCC wire (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting), a special copper with virtually no transverse crystal barriers to impede signal transmission, perfects the performance of the advanced dual coil design.

"So while it remains ultra-clean sounding and treble detail is finely etched, this new ’OC9 packs more of a subjective punch in the bottom end. And it can still lay claim to being one of the most affordable high-end MCs around. The sound is vivid, refined and highly detailed." Hifi News and Record Review

TecnoArm MK II tonearm

The Tecno Arm “A” is a fundamental mechanical rebuild of the well-known RB250 tonearm, to which is added monolithic wiring of the highest quality. The arm tube is bead-blasted and perforated, which disperses structural resonances and yields a lower effective mass. The arm wand is internally damped to reduce resonance further, and the headshell is machined flat, to allow true azimuth relative to the bearing cradle. After modification the bearings are re-adjusted for highest possible performance, according to original Rega procedures.

$1615

RB303 Tonearm

The famous RB303 has been modified to improve production and yield enhanced sonic reproduction. An improved vertical bearing housing has been used, which heightens rigidity in the tonearm's mounting, reducing stress in the main 13mm bearings. This assembly is topped off with the improved RB700 bias housing phono cable.

The first Rega tonearm, and perhaps the most famous tonearm ever produced, the legendary RB303. Fitted to the P3, this tonearm will never be found wanting for performance and will make cartridges work very hard to provide you with astonishing quantities of musical detail.

$805

RB202 Tonearm

The RB202 offer's astonishing performance and is one of Rega's best selling tonearms. An evolution of the famous RB250 which was supplied as standard on the Planar 2 and P2 turntable the RB202 uses hand selected high quality vertical and horizontal bearings.

The tonearm uses our die-cast tube and the three point fixing technique based on the mounting design system of our flagship tonearm the RB1000. This system reduces stress on the plinth and tonearm and offers greater stability though the arm. All of which translates into more music for you the listener.

Mooo Mat

The mooo mat is a piece of cowhide bonded to a piece of cork. The dissimilar materials do a terrific job of canceling out vibration, and the cowhide lifts and decouples the record from the platter.

A wonderfully novel idea, each mat is as unique as the cow it came from. The mooo mat makes a great tweak and a cool fashion accessory for your ‘table'

$99

Cork Mat

Instruments pop to life. Crackle is reduced. Vocals are clearer and more dramatic. The background is quieter, soundstage wider and deeper. How does this thing work? The secret is in the 12 isolation discs surrounding the outside of the mat and the single larger disc for the center label. The discs lift and support the record while floating it above and decoupling it from the platter. This lowers record vibration and reduces acoustic feedback. Stylus tracking is improved and record wear reduced. The mat eliminates the grunge and leaves behind a rich, clear, dynamic sound.

Cork is the perfect material. It sucks up unwanted vibrations and releases the life and energy of the music. It’s naturally non-static and non-adhesive making the mat perfectly safe for use on all platters and it won’t harm your records. Cork grips the record better than felt so there’s less record slippage and fewer timing errors. The mat is thin, lightweight, and generally doesn’t require a VTA adjustment. Listen for yourself, the improvement is easy to hear.

WCS-2

This stunning machine does a superb job cleaning your records. The interlocking alloy chassis is gorgeous to look at, easy to clean, and doesn’t warp or degrade like wood models.

The high powered vacuum system really sucks the muck out of the grooves and fully dries your record in one rotation. This saves time and reduces heat and static exposure to your records during the process.

Hunt E.D.A.

The fibers are in two rows with a static grounding pad centered between. The grounding pad supports the tiny carbon fibers and keeps them erect so they can dig down deep into the groove and extract trapped dust. Look at a record; it contains microscopic undulations inside the groove wall smaller than a human hair that the naked eye cannot see. This is how music is stored on an lp. And this is why fat pads will not do.

A fat pad can’t get down into the groove. It simply brushes over the top and removes the surface dust. The real culprit is the dust that’s trapped deep in the record groove. The only way to remove this dust is with the hunt eda.

MC Xpression

SPU style moving coil cartridge

The Xpression cartridge bridges the gap between the SPU-type cartridges and High-End cartridges like the MC A90 and the MC Windfeld designed for headshell mounting. The result is a high-performance moving coil cartridge with the convenience of a standard headshell connector, which provides a simple and elegant method of directly connecting the generator and tonearm via the Xpression’s one-piece body.

Since the cartridge length is identical to that of an SPU, the Xpression can easily be fitted onto tonearms without additional concern for proper alignment. The cartridge height is likewise identical to the SPU height, which makes further VTA adjustments unnecessary.

The length of the cartridge ensures proper match with the SME-mount type tonearms, e.g. SME, Grace, Fidelity Research, SAEC and Micro Seiki brands. Additionally, the mass and compliance properties of the Xpression ensure that a proper match will be achieved with any SPU-compatible arm.

MC Cadenza Red

Moving coil phono cartridge

"From the start, the Cadenza Red dispensed an air of calm. It was tonally neutral, with a smooth and natural mid and treble...
...Bass was accurate, extended and open-sounding, helping the cartridge's ability to offer realistic stereo perspectives...
...Sultans of Swing' became a well-balanced, truly rocking performance too."
Hi-Fi News, July 2012, Group test

The Cadenza Red model is using a nude fine line stylus with a cylindrical aluminium cantilever. The stylus tip radius is r/R 8/40 µm. The coils are made from 6NX (99.9999%) pure silver wire. An improved winding process on the armature allows a better channel balance.

The sound picture of Cadenza Red is more relaxed, homogeneous and moderately dynamic in the perspective compared to the Cadenza Blue and has great space and depth in the stereo image.

2M Mono

The 2M Series of cartridges is designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove. Our philosophy is to play the record sound as accurate as possible, without coloring the sound.

The name 2M was selected form among several ideas. We wanted a modern name that would be easy to pronounce and remember, and therefore an alphanumerical name was chosen. 2M means MM, which is the abbreviation for moving magnet.

The 2M series of cartridges features Ortofon’s trademark split pole pins, an invention that enables moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response, as with a moving coil cartridge. Split pole pins were invented by Ortofon, and were originally presented in the 500 series and Super OM series.

We have optimized the design for ease of mounting the cartridge, and the weight and size to fit the most common turntables on the market today. The 2M Series provides excellent compatibility when used in an assortment of playback systems and with a wide variety of phono preamps.

Series V12

12 inch precision engineered tone arm

Based on the multi-award winning Series V pick-up arm, the Series V-12 incorporates the same design and engineering that have made SME a byword for excellence. Coherent musical control is held over the entire frequency range in terms of tonal quality, stability and stereo imaging. Startling dynamic range, neutrality, structurally inert, the Series V-12 embodies every worthwhile feature in a pick-up arm.

The 12 inch tone-arm is pressure die-cast in magnesium complete with an Integrated head shell to eliminate tone-arm resonances in the audio spectrum and offers a 27% reduction in maximum angular error distortion over 9 inch models. Listening: the benefits of minimal tracking error and harmonic distortion are clearly revealed.

  • The 12in pressure die-cast tone-arm utilises the advantages of magnesium and exploits the reduction in maximum tracking error/distortion afforded by the greater arm length when compared with 9in models.
  • Internal constrained layer damps minute residual vibration leaving the tone-arm acoustically inert.
  • Fine machined cartridge platform, enamel free to avoid interface resonance.
  • Stainless steel cross shaft, ground and thread ground. Carried in massive yoke on 10mm precision ball races. Axes at record mean level to minimise warp-wow.
  • Dynamic balance. Graduated vertical tracking force control applies up to 3.0g x 0.125g VTF through resonance controlled spring.
  • Stainless steel vertical shaft, ground and thread ground, with integral 16mm flange to couple shaft and yoke.
  • 23mm steel pillar, heat treated, ground and honed, carries two,17mm precision ball races, widely spaced to resist tilt.
  • Anti-skate control operates through tension spring and filament. Dial corresponds with VTF and has a positive OFF position.
  • Lowering/raising control gives smooth positive action. Height of lift can be adjusted.
  • Subsonic lateral-mode damper can be instantly adjusted or cancelled.
  • Dual-lock base provides movement control with high rigidity.
  • Tungsten-alloy balance carried on two-point suspension. Extra-low inertia design assists warp riding.
  • Underslung weight housing corrects centre of gravity and provides non-reflective tone-arm termination.
  • Swiveling, damped output socket minimises vibration transmission in sub-chassis use.

Series V

9 inch precision engineered tone arm

SME engineers, recognising the potential of the latest complementary equipment, accepted the challenge to design and build a pick-up arm which unlike others in existence would make no detectable sound contribution of its own. The work took almost four years and the measure of its success is the acceptance of the Series V precision pick-up arm by technical experts and users as one of the world's truly great audio products.Series V sound has an almost startling dynamic range and neutrality enabling high levels to be enjoyed. It escapes the 'LP' sound and demonstrates that structural resonances in pick-up arms are responsible for much that makes vinyl records readily discernible from master tapes.

  • Unique one-piece pressure die-cast tone-arm utilising the advantages of magnesium, replace conventional fabricated construction.
  • Internal constrained layer damps minute residual vibration leaving the tone-arm acoustically inert.
  • Fine machined cartridge platform, enamel free to avoid interface resonance. A Stainless steel cross shaft, ground and thread ground. Carried in massive yoke on 10mm ABEC 7 ball races. Axis at record mean level to minimise warp-wow.
